A board certified radiation oncologist, Dr. Leslie Holmes practices general radiation oncology with a special interest in treating malignancies of the breast, lung and gynecologic organs.
Dr. Holmes graduated from Howard University in Washington, DC, in 1987, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Radiation Therapy Technology with a minor in Science. In 1995, she obtained her Medical degree upon completing her matriculation from Morehouse School of Medicine, in Atlanta, GA. Dr. Holmes completed residency training in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Emory University School of Medicine in 2001.
Upon completing residency, Dr. Holmes was invited to join Emory’s faculty where she honed her clinical skills and developed her career as an Assistant Professor. At Emory, Dr. Holmes taught radiation therapy technology students, radiation oncology residents, and medical students. Additionally, she served as the Principal and Co-Principal investigator of several protocols, which still have significant notoriety world wide.
Recently, Dr. Holmes was recognized as an author published in Cancer. She has worked with other physicians to help develop the literature on triple negative breast cancer. These works have been presented at several national conferences.
Dr. Holmes has also served on the Georgia Cancer Center (GCC) of Excellence Cancer Committee where she was chairman of the Quality Improvement Subcommittee. Additionally, she served as the Quality Assurance Administrator for the Edward Loughlin Cancer Center at Grady Memorial Hospital and co-chaired their GCC Tumor Conference. Dr. Holmes is involved in several organizations and societies, including Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Atlanta Medical Association, American Brachytherapy Society, American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, Howard University Alumni Association, Morehouse School of Medicine Alumni Association, and the National Medical Association.
As of August, 2009, Dr. Leslie Holmes is now the Medical Director for Radiotherapy Clinics of Georgia’s Rockdale County Radiation Therapy Center, 1293 Wellbrook Circle, in Conyers, Georgia.
